the lone inspiration.

i often times find myself thinking about what it means to get inspired by something.  to really look at something with so much awe that it affects the way you choose to do something, creatively or not.

i get inspired by so many things on a daily basis, that all end up having a part in whatever i am working on at the time. whether i am working on music, videos, even just writing. from the way i perceive colors, situations, buildings.  i often find myself imagining what all of those things i am seeing would look like from behind a lens, or how i would edit them together in sequence.

i also do this when listening to music in the car.  i have realized that my most creative time is when i am driving listening to music. i really wish i could re capture the moments of inspiration i feel in the car listening to my favorite jams.

what really changed it all for me though, and made me who i am today when it comes to music, was adam young.  adam young is a songwriter from minnesota who is responsible for many projects.  his most known being the electro pop outfit, owl city.  although he has close to 15 total projects, owl city is the most mainstream, known for the sleeper hit “fireflies” and although i enjoy this group, my life was really changed when a good friend of mine found port blue.  we were both getting into owl city at the time, and he happened to stumble across “the airship” young’s first full length album under “port blue” my lift was flipped upside down when i heard this album.  i had been a serious musician for awhile at that point, having played drums for 7 or so years, i also dabbled in screaming for a progressive hardcore band. but i had never really taken CREATING music seriously.

when i heard port blue it was everything i had ever wanted in musical form. i felt huge emotional waves of happiness and inspiration consume me when listening to the airship over and over and over again. it inspired me to buy a midi keyboard and learn my recording programs better. it also inspired me to start of the sun, release a song on itunes to be possibly judged by young, and to finally put an e.p. out

in short i really just want to thank adam young for everything his creativity and musicianship have given to me. and for really showing me what inspiration is all about.

cirrus.

hey everybody,

i hope all is well is each of your universes.  things have been going tremendously ever since i released “transmission” almost a month ago.  the response has been more than i could ever dream, or ask for.

right now the plan is to release a video for my light giver in the next month or so. i am also trying to get some cool feature going on various music blogs.  but the main reason i brought you guys here is to tell you about another project i’m working on.  it’s a two piece semi electronic group that we are calling “cirrus” meaning the high clouds in the sky.

we just recorded two demos last night, and i should be sharing them with you all shortly.

hope all is going well for all of you.

first transmission.

hello all,

it’s an absolute pleasure to have you here.  i’m gonna get straight to the point, my name is of the sun.  i have gone by of the sun since 2009, and was first inspired to use the name after reading an article on “metaphor of the sun” which basically says that the sun is illumination, but not in the common sense of the word.  illumination refers to intellectual illumination, the nature of ultimate reality, and how knowledge is acquired concerning it.

i chose this name because it was right around the time i really got into instrumental music, and how words can not always be the only way to convey a message.  throughout my e.p. i rely heavily on the use of samples to convey the general idea i got from the song, and the idea i hope the listener feels as well.

below you can find the link to download the e.p. please let me know your thoughts on it, and spread the word!
